After heavy rains, a lull in North India

New Delhi: After heavy downpour, rains gave a slip to most parts of North India today leading to high humidity levels while temperatures in the region were normal. Delhi witnessed humid conditions with the maximum temperature settling at 33.8 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

The maximum temperature rose by a notch above normal to 33.8 deg C but it was high humidity which hovered between 70 and 92 per cent that made Delhiites sweat it out. Minimum temperature was recorded at 23 deg C, which was 4 degrees lower than yesterday.

In Punjab and Haryana, the maximum temperatures today hovered around the normal level, a day after many places in the two states were lashed by rains.

The maximum temperature at Chandigarh was recorded at 33.6 deg C, the MeT office said here.

Amritsar in Punjab recorded a high of 33 deg C while Ludhiana's maximum settled at 34.6 deg C. Patiala recorded a high of 34.2 deg C.

According to a Haryana government spokesman, Gurgaon had yesterday received a heavy rainfall of 102 mm.

Parts of Himachal Pradesh today received moderate rains as monsoon remained normal in the region.

Day temperatures rose by a few notches in the hill state. The maximum temperature rose to 34.8 deg Celsius in Una while Bhuntar and Sundernagar recorded a high of 32.1 deg and 31.6 deg, followed by Solan 28.2 deg, Nahan 27.7 deg, Dharamsala 26.2 deg and Shimla 22.1 deg C.

There was no significant change in minimum temperatures which stayed close to normal. Sundernagar recorded a low of 21.6 deg while Bhuntar and Dharamsala recorded minimum temperatures at 20.8 deg and 20.6 deg followed by Solan and Chamba 20.2 deg, Shimla and Nahan 17.6 deg and Kalpa 13.4 deg C.

Una was wettest in the region with 48 mm rains while, Jubbarhatti and Mashobra recorded 45 mm and 39 mm of rains, followed by Dharamsala and Bhuntar 18 mm, Shimla 16 mm, Dalhousie 15 mm each and Amb 13 mm.

The local MeT office has predicted heavy rains at some places during the next 48 hours. However, widespread rains today lashed most parts of Rajasthan with Chabra area receiving the maximum rainfall of 13 cms during last 24 hours, a Met official said.

South West monsoon, which was active over eastern parts of the state, also moved towards the western regions of Jodhpur, Bikaner, Churu districts giving respite to people from hot and humid weather.
