Communications Coordinator, Los Angeles Conservancy, CA

The Los Angeles Conservancy, the country?s largest local historic preservation organization, seeks a Communications Coordinator to help advance the Conservancy?s mission through strategic communications. This is a full-time, junior position that reports to the Director of Communications.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist with media relations: field press inquiries; maintain media contact database; create campaign-specific press lists; draft and distribute press releases; acquire promotional images; pitch stories; respond to content/image requests; schedule interviews; prepare talking points/fact sheets; compile press clips and reports; escort media at events.
  • Support online communications: update Conservancy website; produce e-mail newsletters/campaigns; investigate, evaluate, and embrace new tools/technology to enhance messaging (video, maps, slideshows, etc.).
  • Implement social media strategy: Manage Conservancy Facebook and Twitter accounts; create and post daily content; monitor comments; develop new ideas for engagement.
  • Coordinate and produce bi-monthly member newsletter.
  • Coordinate photography at events; help maintain Conservancy image archive by acquiring photos and permissions as needed.
  • Support special projects related to advocacy, education, and development (e.g., membership drives, mobilization on advocacy issues, new educational initiatives).
  • Provide general editorial support: proofread Conservancy materials; develop content as needed.
  • Support efforts of Conservancy staff as needed by creating PowerPoint presentations, briefing on communications campaigns/statistics, etc.
  • Assist with marketing: field partnership requests; help to administer and promote partnership programs; participate in partner events.
  • Help with office-wide administrative tasks, such as answering phones.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor?s degree in related field
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Eagerness and ability to quickly learn new communications tools and techniques
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills
  • Experience with social media
  • Experience in media relations
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Flexibility; willingness to pitch in on other projects
  • Collaborative work style
  • Passion for preserving L.A.?s historic resources

Preferred Qualifications

  • One to three years of relevant professional experience
  • Familiarity with MS Office, inDesign, and Photoshop
