Pecan Street Inc. seeks a finance director for the overall management of the organization?s accounting and financial policies. This position will require close collaboration with the organization?s staff, funded researchers, member companies and funding organizations.
About Pecan Street, Inc.
Pecan Street Inc. is a clean energy/smart grid research and development organization headquartered at The University of Texas at Austin. It carries out applied research and manages research carried out by UT faculty and students and private sector researchers from companies that are members of the Pecan Street Consortium.
Primary Responsibilities
The finance director will report to Pecan Street Inc.?s executive director and chief of staff. The finance director will be responsible for implementation and oversight of the organization?s financial policies, including the following:
- Oversee all financial operations and organizational financial planning
- Implement and maintain accounting and administrative policies and procedures for financial accounting and reporting, employee timekeeping and other organizational policies
- Coordinate, analyze and report the organization?s financial performance on a weekly basis to management, a monthly basis to the Pecan Street Board of Directors and as needed for special reports
- Prepare short- and long-term forecasts of financial performance for use with internal management and external parties
- Provide support on finalization of the organization?s budget and perform semi-annual budget reconciliation
- Oversee audit and tax functions, coordinate activities with outside audit firms and review firms? performance
- Oversee bookkeeping activities with outside firm and review firm?s performance
- Oversee and coordinate payroll with Pecan Street Inc.?s co-employer
- Implement subrecipient monitoring activities in accordance with requirements by federal funders and the organization?s financial policies
- Coordinate and provide financial management and reporting for privately-funded and government-funded grants
- Create and maintain a fundraising plan and provide support on individual grant proposals
Experience and Skills
Pecan Street Inc. seeks a candidate with experience in non-profit financial management, single-item audit compliance and operational management, with strong organizational skills and a desire to be part of a dynamic team.
No previous experience or academic background in energy, utilities, science or engineering is required.
A Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in a relevant financial field is required. Pecan Street Inc. uses Mac OS X (Apple Macintosh operating system), iOS (operating system for iPad) for field research work and Quickbooks. Candidates should either have experience with Mac OS X systems or a willingness to learn.
Ideal professional experience and personal attributes also include:
- Experience working in financial management for a Research & Development 501-(c)3 organization
- Experience managing financial reporting for federally-funded grants
- Working knowledge of A-122 and other relevant federal guidelines for operational and financial management of non-profits with federally-funded grants
- Experience managing single-item audit compliance
- Proficient in the use of Quickbooks for Macs
Compensation
Compensation is based on a 32-hour workweek and will start at an annual salary of $65,000 plus health and holiday benefits.
