Fifty-five rigs were drilling Friday in North Texas' Barnett Shale, down four from a week earlier, according to RigData.
The leading counties are Tarrant, 17 rigs; Wise, 9; Montague, 6; Johnson, 5; and Denton and Jack, 4 each.
The leading operators are: Chesapeake Energy, 12 rigs (Tarrant, 10, and Johnson, 2); Devon Energy, 10 rigs (Johnson and Wise, 3 each, and Denton and Parker, 2 each); XTO Energy, 5 rigs (all Tarrant); and EOG Resources, 5 rigs (Montague, 3, and Cooke, 2).
The number of active U.S. drilling rigs declined by seven this week, to 1,993, according to Houston-based oilfield services firm Baker Hughes.
Oil rigs rose by two, to 1,132, and natural gas rigs dropped by nine, to 856. There were five miscellaneous rigs.
The Texas rig count fell by four, to 902.
